Smart Home Integration in Chappaqua

Chappaqua sits in the Town of New Castle, a short drive from our Armonk office: wooded lots, winding roads and the Harlem Line into the city.

The houses here span the postwar decades to the present: colonials and contemporaries from the 1950s through the 1980s, many now being renovated or replaced, alongside new construction on the larger lots toward Millwood.

Renovation is most of the work. A family buys a house for the land and the location, then opens it up, adds a kitchen and a lower level, and wants the technology to catch up. We plan that from the drawings: wiring, a proper equipment space, and speakers and shades placed before the drywall goes on.

On new construction we join while the architect is still drawing, so the house is built with its systems rather than fitted with them later.

From the Journal

The best time to plan a smart home is before the walls close

Why the renovation is the moment, and what to settle with your architect while it is still on paper.

Architecture

Postwar to new

Colonials, split-levels and contemporaries from the postwar decades, opened up and extended, next to new builds on cleared lots. Each era has different walls and different ways in, and we plan the wiring around them.

Lifestyle

Weeknights and weekends

The commute, homework and practice, then a film on Friday. The house needs Wi-Fi in every bedroom, a media room or lower-level theater, and music in the kitchen and out on the deck.

Questions

Chappaqua, answered.

Do you work in Chappaqua and Millwood?
Yes. Our office is in neighboring Armonk, and we design and install smart home, lighting, audio, networking and home theater systems across the Town of New Castle, including Chappaqua and Millwood.
We are renovating. When should we call you?
While the architect is still drawing, and before demolition if you can. Wiring, equipment space and device locations are far easier to plan then, and the finished house looks as though the technology was always part of it.
Can you turn our basement into a home theater?
Usually, yes. We look at ceiling height, sound isolation, seating and where the screen and equipment can go, then design the room and calibrate it once it is built.
Do you work with our architect and builder?
Yes. We coordinate drawings, schedules and site visits with your architect and builder from the start of the project.
