Smart Home Integration in Scarsdale
Scarsdale's Tudors and stone colonials were built to last a century. We give them the systems the next one will ask for.
Much of Scarsdale was built in the 1920s and 1930s, and it shows in the best way: slate roofs, leaded glass, stone and stucco, plaster walls and deep trim. Those same qualities make technology harder to add. Masonry blocks Wi-Fi, plaster cracks if it is cut carelessly, and there are rarely chases where a newer house would have them.
We plan these projects as careful retrofits. Access points are placed and wired so coverage holds through stone walls. Lighting keypads replace switches in the same boxes. Speakers go into ceilings where they can be finished to disappear, and the equipment goes somewhere it can breathe.
Visible exterior changes in the village often go before Scarsdale's Board of Architectural Review, so we coordinate anything that shows from the street with your architect from the start.
From the Journal
The room nobody sees
Older houses rarely have a good place for equipment. Our guide to planning one that stays cool, quiet and easy to service.
Architecture
Tudor bones
Half-timbering, slate and stone outside; plaster, oak and leaded glass within. We keep every visible surface as it was and bring the wiring in behind it.
Lifestyle
A village life
Families who walk to the village and take the train into the city. The house works hard on weeknights and slows down at the weekend: Wi-Fi in every room for school and work, a family room that becomes a cinema, music in the kitchen.
What Scarsdale asks for
Networking & Wi-Fi
Stone and plaster stop Wi-Fi. We wire access points through the house so every room, the third floor and the basement included, has strong coverage.
Explore →Lighting Control
Lutron keypads in the existing switch boxes, with scenes for the whole house and, where we can avoid them, no new wires between.
Explore →Whole Home Audio
Speakers finished into plaster ceilings, so the music fills the room and the speaker is hard to find.
Explore →Home Theater
Lower levels and family rooms made into media rooms, with acoustic treatment that sits comfortably in a traditional interior.

Questions
Scarsdale, answered.
- Who installs smart home systems in Scarsdale?
- Elevated Integration designs and installs lighting control, networking, whole-home audio, home theater and Savant control for Scarsdale homes, from our office in Armonk. We have worked across Westchester since 2012.
- Why is the Wi-Fi so poor in our house?
- Older Scarsdale homes are built of stone, brick and plaster, sometimes over metal lath, and all of it weakens a wireless signal. A single router cannot cover them. The fix is wired access points placed through the house, on a network designed for it.
- Can you install speakers and lighting control without damaging plaster?
- Yes. We cut and patch with the care of a restoration contractor, use existing switch boxes for keypads, and route cable through existing paths wherever we can.
- Do we need village approval?
- Anything visible from outside may need review by Scarsdale's Board of Architectural Review. We coordinate those details with your architect or builder so the approval does not hold up the project.
- We are renovating. When should we call?
- Before the walls are opened. Cable, equipment space and device locations are far easier to plan during a renovation than after it. We work with your architect and contractor from the drawings.
